Bora Bora Trip

Chances are that if you were asked to draw your idea of a Pacific island, you might come up with a picture that looks like the Bora Bora trip, which has rainforest-covered peaks soaring more than 2,000 feet above a classic lagoon of blues and greens. The entire volcanic mass is surrounded by a ring of coral reefs and tiny islets with lovely beaches and coconut trees.

The island itself can be explored in a few hours; there are sweeping beaches in the south and ancient Polynesian temples hidden in the jungle. It’s populated by 8,880 Polynesians who love to show visitors their treasured lagoon and its marine inhabitants. They also love to entertain visitors with music and dance. The island is a caldera or collapsed volcano; Pofai Bay is the crater center, while the towering Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu are all that remains of the volcano walls.

Matira Beach

Matira Beach is often mentioned as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. This mile-long stretch of superb white sand is located at the southern tip of Bora Bora and is lined by stately palm trees with magnificent a background of lush green hills. Bordered on both sides by private beaches, Matira is the only public beach on the island worth visiting and access is free to anyone. This place is the most important in Bora Bora Trip.

The swimming and snorkeling are superb here and the fine white sand gently slopes into a soft sandy lagoon that is perfectly warm and shallow. The sea bottom is flat and sandy, free of sharp coral, so it is easy to walk on. It is a perfect place to bring the kids for a frolic in the calm, warm water. During low tide, it is possible to wade from Matira Point to the barrier reef, the water is very shallow.

Bora Bora Yacht Club

The Bora Bora Yacht Club is just outside the town of Vaitape by a short drive. A restaurant, a bar, and yacht services in one excellent location. Founded in 1972, the Bora Bora Yacht Club has been a perfect place for a good meal while watching an amazing sunset over the lagoon.

Jason and I made reservations for 5:30 pm which allowed us to have drinks on the dock before eating. Keep in mind that dinner is not served until after 6:00 pm.

Vaitape Village

Spend some time away from luxury and head to the small village of Vaitape where you can look at the exciting local life of Bora Bora. People spend their days doing grocery shopping and dropping their kids at school, and their evenings are spent dining in one of the Roulottes (food trucks) in the village square followed by some stargazing on the pier.

Lagoon Tour

Lagoonarium is a natural aquarium located close to the main island – west of it actually, on small Motu (island). This special part of the lagoon is riddled with underwater wildlife, and you’ll rarely get the chance to experience it as rich as it is here. Turtles, rays, sharks, colorful fish, corals – are only a portion of what’s available here.

The city of Vaitape is the largest settlement on Bora Bora thanks to its 5,000 or so inhabitants. This small town is riddled with diners, cafes, and restaurants, but that’s far from everything it has to offer.

Mount Otemanu

The island itself can be explored in a few hours; there are sweeping beaches in the south and ancient Polynesian temples hidden in the jungle.

Bora Bora’s highest peak is Mount Otemanu at 727 meters. It has never been climbed due to the steep and fragile volcanic rock at its summit. Mount Otemanu can be seen anywhere in Bora Bora. It’s a great hiking destination, best done with the help of a local guide. Other than hiking, we can look for old American WWII cannons, ancient local altars all around the jungle.

Imagine exploring one of Bora Bora’s turquoise lagoons on board an open underwater scooter for two! You can only experience it in Bora Bora and on Maurice Island and nowhere else. Your scooter will be slowly immersed in water from a platform and once underwater, you will be able to explore the lagoon and the rich marine life in the company of a scuba diver. Your head will be covered with a glass helmet and you will be able to breathe normally.

The Aquabike is powered by electric propulsion and is autonomous – you can move freely. The drive will take about 40 minutes and you will travel about 1.5 km at the depth of about 15 feet.
